# `÷` — Reciprocal / Divide

Function. Keys: `Alt-u`. Ranks: `0` monadic, `0 0` dyadic

`÷Y`: 1/Y. Pervasive.

``` bpl
÷4                ⍝ 0.25
```

`X÷Y`: X/Y. Pervasive. Division by zero follows IEEE 754. A nonzero `X`
divided by zero gives an infinity with the sign of `X`. Zero divided by
zero gives NaN.

``` bpl
1ₓ÷3ₓ             ⍝ 1r3
¯1÷0              ⍝ ¯∞
0÷0               ⍝ $n
```

## Inverse

`÷⁻¹` is `÷`. With the right argument fixed, `(÷↢X)⁻¹Y` is `Y×X`.

``` bpl
12÷⁻¹4     ⍝ 3
(÷↢4)⁻¹3   ⍝ 12
```

## Errors

- `DOMAIN`: a character argument
